What Is Spotify?
Unless you've been living under a rock for the past decade, you've probably at least heard of Spotify. You might be listening to it right now. Or you may have even already given it a go and decided it wasn't for you. (If this is the case, I'm here to convince you to give it a second chance.)
In any case, let's do a quick recap of what's about to become your favorite Spanish learning tool.
Spotify is a music streaming service that launched in 2008 and has since taken the world by storm. Since its release, the service has become so much more than a music library.
As a Spotify user, not only do you have access to millions of songs, you can also tap into an entire repertoire of podcasts, videos and carefully curated playlists, including some that are perfect for Spanish learners.
The service is compatible with a plethora of electronic devices so you can use it at home on your television and laptop or take it with you on your tablet or smartphone.
If you can't find a way to fit anything else into your already tight budget, don't panic! Spotify offers a completely free membership option with advertisement and some limits on playback.
You can also dive in and get a paid subscription: $9.99 a month grants you access to the content without ad interruptions. Premium also gives you the freedom to download tracks to listen to offline, and it removes the playback limits (which means you can play any track any time you want).
How to Personalize Spotify for Maximum Learning
Spotify is incredibly simple to use. However, most people don't make the most of its extensive library and features.
Search for songs
It's never been easier to find your favorite Spanish songs or discover new Spanish-speaking artists.
Using Spotify's search bar allows you to find songs or artists within seconds, and the genre and mood playlists are the perfect solution when you don't know exactly what you want to listen to.
Make and share playlists
Spotify also allows you to create your own playlists, so you can keep all of your favorite Spanish music in one place.

You can even connect with your friends, family and fellow learners to see what they've been listening to. It's a great way to practice learning Spanish together. After all, learning is so much easier when you do it with someone!
Download top tracks for on-the-go listening
If you do opt for the premium option, use Spotify's offline feature. If you spend a lot of time in your car or on your commute where you might not have internet access, use this time to learn! Download your favorite Spanish songs, podcasts and playlists and listen offline wherever you are.
Now that you know how to personalize your Spotify experience, let's fill your audio library with some excellent Spanish-learning tracks, podcasts and more.
Spanish Music and Videos on Spotify
Everyone has days where just the thought of practicing Spanish verbs or tackling grammar exercises makes your head spin. On those days, it's important to keep learning! But, it doesn't have to be as tedious as you think.
Learning Spanish through music can be a fun and less strenuous way to keep your learning alive—and Spotify has you covered.
Top 50 lists from around the world
Spotify has two types of charts for discovering the current hottest music: "Top 50" and "Viral 50." That's 100 of the most popular songs of the moment already put together by Spotify for you to listen to.
What people don't realize is that Spotify has these charts for countries from all over the world. Intrigued? Of course you are!
If you go to Spotify's "Charts" section, you can listen to the top music in countries like Costa Rica, Argentina, Colombia, El Salvador and more! That's instant access to hours of the most popular current Spanish songs across the globe.
On top of this, Spotify has a whole category for Spanish music playlists. All you have to do is go to Spotify's "Genres and Moods" section and click on the "Latin" category. This is the easiest way to discover different types of Spanish music.
Beyond pop songs: music genres for everyone
If you thought that Spanish music was limited to Shakira's sultry pop and dance music, think again. Check out Spotify's "Rock Total"and "Alternativo Latin" playlists for a completely different sound. Or get ahead of the game and tune into the "New Music Friday—Latin" playlist for the latest releases.
If Spotify's playlists don't quite embody your music tastes, there are other options. The service has millions of users, which means there are more than enough user-created playlists for you to explore, many of them specifically listing Spanish songs.
Don't believe me? Just try typing "Spanish" into the search barand you'll find tons of user-created playlists featuring Spanish music. Now you just have to find the right one for you.
And if you still can't find the perfect playlist, create your own!
Spotify has videos, too!
Finally, you might already be using YouTube videos to learn Spanish, or concentrating on FluentU's personalized language lessons that pull from a library of authentic videos, but it's a little-known fact that Spotify actually has videos, too. Here's one of our favorites:
"Viva Latino: Original Videos"
This is a great resource for learning Spanish in an exciting and interesting way. The selection is still growing with new videos featuring Spanish-speaking artists coming out on a regular basis, and all of them are exclusive to Spotify.
Spotify's Spanish Podcasts
Another surprise users find when they sign up for Spotify is the extensive number of podcasts available in the library.
Several of these are specifically geared toward people who are learning Spanish. Listen to them while you wash the dishes or drive to the supermarket. With Spanish podcasts, learning Spanish has never been easier.
Below are our picks of some of the best Spanish-learning podcasts on Spotify:
"Coffee Break Spanish"
This podcast by Radio Lingua Network is a great resource for those just starting their Spanish learning journey.
There are four seasons available, each with 40 lessons, plus a few extra tracks thrown in. The lessons are designed so that complete beginners can start with lesson one and work their way through the entire four seasons.
Each episode is generally anywhere from 10 to 25 minutes—perfect for a short coffee break!
"Duolingo Spanish Podcast"
You've probably heard of or even used Duolingo to learn Spanish. But if you don't want to sign up online, you can still access Duolingo's great podcasts on Spotify.
These are a series of short stories rather than lessons, but they're easy to understand and great for learners who are trying to improve their listening and comprehension skills.
" Español Automático"
For those who are no longer beginners, this may be the perfect podcast for you. The episodes are aimed at intermediate and advanced Spanish learners and cover topics from culture to expressions and grammar.
With almost 100 tracks already and more being added regularly, you're sure to find something to interest you.
"Spanishland School"
If you're looking for condensed learning to fill those ten-minute breaks, look no further than this gem. These are short lessons which are almost all under 10 minutes and are great for covering Spanish grammar and verbs.
"The Unlimited Spanish Podcast"
Want even more podcasts? This collection of over 100 episodes covers a wide range of topics for unique Spanish learning.
Spanish Lessons on Spotify
Podcasts make it easy and entertaining to learn Spanish, but Spotify also has other audio specifically designed for learners. You'd be crazy not to make full use of Spotify's resources.
Study with Spotify's Spanish lessons
Can't afford a Spanish course? Here's a much cheaper solution: Spotify's "Learn Spanish" playlist.
With over 400 tracks, this is the easiest way to learn all the basics. The resource covers everything from nouns to verbs to topic-specific vocabulary and expressions.
Track titles are easy to sift through so that you know exactly what each one covers. Jump around or scroll further down to find lessons that you can work through in a more methodical way.
If you were worried about running out of material to help with your Spanish learning, don't be. This playlist has over 47 hours worth of tracks to get through. That'll keep you busy for a while!
Albums with lessons are music to our ears
There are even some albums specifically designed to teach Spanish. Some have tracks included in Spotify's playlist, so if you like what you hear, head on over to the main albums and listen through them.
Here are two of our favorites:
"Learn Spanish Words"
This album by Lounge Lizard Publications is great for focusing on developing a basic Spanish vocabulary.
"Learn Spanish in Your Car"
This is a great way to start learning Spanish.
The collection by Henry N. Raymond is divided into three levels. By the end of these three albums, you'll have covered everything you need to really start advancing further in your Spanish learning with confidence.
By now you must realize that the options for learning Spanish on Spotify are just about endless. Yet not many know about them.
Spotify is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to jump-start your Spanish learning!
